Caregivers

Caregivers have the option of entering  Canada either as a  permanent resident or to work temporarily.

i. Permanent residence for caregivers- Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot

Where a caregiver meets the eligibility requirements, and has received  a job offer either as a home child care provider or a home support worker, they are able to apply for permanent residence through the pilot programmes applicable to those occupations. The process involves obtaining an  open work permit  which allows the caregiver to gain  the work experience required  to be eligible for permanent residence in future.

ii. Temporary work for caregivers

We assist caregivers who are  presently working in Canada to extend their work permits through  the Temporary Foreign Worker Program subsequent to their employer obtaining a positive Labour Markets Impact Assessment.

The Recent changes to this program are that no new  work permit applications for  in-home caregivers will be processed in the event of the following:
  • The application is made from outside Canada.
  • The application is made through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
  • The applicant will not be working in Quebec.
  • The employer applied for a Labour Market Impact Assessment on or after June 18 2019.
